Scully's saves count for nothing

Monday, 30th Mar 2015

"We need to go out and find a bit of fight from somewhere to get the five wins that we need.

Ryan Scully termed Saturday as a "terrible day at the office". All the saves he made during the game mattered little given that the Pars defence leaked four goals against second top Morton. The 22 year old who has a record of 20 shut outs in his 84 appearances for Dunfermline said:-

"It was quite embarrassing in the end and Morton thoroughly deserved the three points."

The Pars keeper was by far the busier and his strikers only recorded three shots on target during the 90 minutes, Ryan thought that reflected the story of his team's season:-

"We have not really caused keepers too much damage. Our first shot felt like it was from David Hopkirk in the last five minutes or so. When you are not taking shots you are not going to be scoring goals. Not scoring has been our biggest issue this season and when you concede goals like that you are not giving yourselves much of a chance."

Both of Morton's full backs, Lee Kilday and Mark Russell got on the scoresheet in the 4-0 rout.

"Russell was allowed to run the whole length of the park basically without anybody challenging him, Even if it caused a foul. We looked very weak overall.

"For the first twenty minutes we looked well but then for some reason we stopped playing. We got deeper and let them dictate the game.

"We conceded in the last minute of the first half and then early in the second half. That just killed us and you don't want to say it, but it looked like the boys just gave up in the end. When the two goals went in we were just asking to get punished."

Just how to improve things is something that all the players have been asking themselves:-

"We keep talking about how we have the best squad. Obviously we have not got the best squad if there are teams above us. Morton and Stranraer grind out results, fair play to them and sometimes it is not about playing nice football. There is a lot more to the game than that and we have not been doing that this season.

"It is really embarrassing to see four goals go past you, especially at home. I do not take anything from the saves. It is a team game, nice to make some saves here and there but they don't count for much.

"I don't know what we can do next, I think we have tried everything this season. We had a few home truths after the game. Obviously we will have a week's work in training and hopefully we can find some sort of form.

"Team talks on a Saturday are just basically going to say 'go out and win the game' that's all you can do.

"We need to go out and find a bit of fight from somewhere to get the five wins that we need. It is five wins - we cannot afford to drop any more points. We have been saying this for the last couple of games but Brechin drew on Saturday which gives us that bit of hope but we need to win five games it is that simple.

"These are huge games for this club. To think that this club might be in this league next year is embarrassing. If we don't get a reality check now that is where we are going to be. We need to dig deep now and see what we are made of and win these five games."
