Dom Thomas First Interview

As Greg Kiltie returned to Rugby Park having been recalled after four months on loan to Dunfermline, fellow Kilmarnock player Dom Thomas arrived at East End Park on loan until the end of the season.
The 23 year old midfielder told this website:- “I`m delighted to be here. When I heard Dunfermline were interested there were no second thoughts. It is a big club sitting well in the table, looking to push up into the play offs so it was something that excited me.
“Greg spoke very highly of the club. He was really impressed with the way they played. They started very well but have had a wee dip. That happens on football so hopefully we can go back on the road and get a few wins now.”
Dom has featured in every Kilmarnock game this season but he only has made three starts. He explained his feelings:- “For me, I want to be playing football, so hopefully coming here I’ll hope to play every week.
“At the end of the day, you’re paid to play football and it’s what you want to do on a Saturday so when you’re not doing that it frustrates you. So, I have come here, I’ll work hard on the training ground and the aim is to impress and play every weekend.”
Rutherglen born Thomas has been out on loan twice to Queen of the South and spent most of last season loaned out to Dumbarton. He continued:-
“For me they were great loan spells - going out and enjoying it. I feel that you become a better player when you are playing every week so I come to Dunfermline with the same aim.”
At Dumbarton he was very popular earning himself a nomination for the League One Player of the Year and a place in the Sons‘ Team of the Decade. Not surprisingly he added:-
“I really enjoyed it down there. I was playing every week and felt I was improving every week. The aim is to do even better coming here and it is a bigger club so that excites me as a football player. I look forward to working hard and impressing people here.
“I scored fifteen goals at Dumbarton, that is something that you always want to add to your game. If I can get fifteen goals for Dunfermline as well I will be over the moon!”
Certainly someone to help take the pressure off Kevin Nisbet would be an asset and for Dom it is a case of friends re-united:-
“I’ve known Kev for a long time, the two of us are from the same area and went to school together, although he was in the year below me and I was actually in his big brother’s class.
“He got his move here and he’s taken that in his stride, so it’s good to see him doing really well and hopefully I can help him do even better.
“I was at Queen of the South with Joe Thomson (pictured above together v Dunfermline) as well and it’s a good group of boys, everybody has been brand new, training was really good so I’m happy to be here.
“I’ve been in the Championship for two spells with Queen of the South and I think it’s a really good league, I enjoyed playing in it. I think getting to know the players you’re playing against benefits you as well and that’s something I hope to use to my advantage.
“I don’t really see a big difference between the Premiership and the Championship. I will take every day as it comes, work hard and hopefully help the team.”
Dom hopes his first opportunity to help Dunfermline’s ambitions will be given to him at Greenock on Saturday and he is confident a win is possible even though the opposition will probably include an old acquaintance from his days at Motherwell in 36 year old John Sutton who played alongside then 18 year old Dom when he made his senior debut:
“I know Suttie well, was an experienced player when I was at Motherwell a few years ago. Hopefully he has a bad day tomorrow and it is a Dunfermline win.
“I have been impressed so far with what I have seen so there is no reason why we can’t go there and get the three points.
