Cup tie catalyst for unbeaten run
Friday, 20th Jan 2017Jason Talbot claims that it is nice to have a break away from league business to Scottish Cup duty.
"It will be a good game for us, away from home on their brand new AstroTurf pitch. We played there in pre season and it was good to get the chance to try it out, it was nice and flat which was good because their old one was not. If we do what we need to do it should be a good game."
Jason was one of the players rested for the third round tie at Buckie and Conner Duthie came in for his first Pars start. He watched from the bench and felt that Dunfermline made it difficult for themselves that afternoon against Buckie Thistle although it was to provide the springboard for the team`s nine match unbeaten run. Jason continued:-
"The beginning of the season was not good enough, we all knew that. Performances weren`t actually that bad it was just results. It is a results based league, it is not based on performance, but I am glad that we have turned performances into results now."
The 31 year old Pars full back could not identify exactly what had changed and created the unbeaten run, "it was just a few good results going our way.
"The morale grows and the gaffer has been picking near enough the same team bar one or two changes for suspensions and injuries. The nucleus of the team has been the same and I think that has helped the whole squad, not just the starting eleven. There is competition for places and people have to keep their places."
Jason is well aware that the next round is due to be played on February 11th and hopes that Alloa can be overcome and the Pars are in the hat for a potential big draw, preferably at home:-
"We proved last season with the team that we had that we could compete with teams in the Premier League and hopefully we could get through and face another Premier League team."
Last season Ross County knocked the Pars out of the Scottish Cup in a replay at Dingwall. After suffering early knock outs while at Livingston by East Stirling and Annan Athletic, Jason`s best Scottish Cup run was to the Fourth Round last season and he hopes to improve on that this season:-
"I think over the two games we deserved to go through. It was just unfortunate the way the first game went - we deserved to win that one hands down. Then it was always going to be difficult going to play Ross County."
