Bring back the old James

Tuesday, 3rd May 2016

"It is do or die now, show him what I have got and get a good contract playing with the first team every week

Youth player James Thomas signed a new six month contract and the nineteen year old from Blackburn in West Lothian realises that he has a limited amount of time to show the management that he is worthy of a longer one.

"I really have to come back and show what I have got. I want to come back after pre season and be back to where I was last season. I had an up and down season with injuries, I missed a lot of games. Hopefully I can bounce back bigger and stronger.

"I love the club, the boys, first team, the gaffer and Potts. I am definitely happy to sign."

The 2015-2016 season was not as good for James, he found it tougher and put that down to missing the amount of deliveries:-

"Last season I was one of the young boys and we had the older boys with more experience. As a striker I was getting more service upfront whereas now I came from being the third youngest to the oldest in the under 20s within six months.

"Sometimes we have fourteen and fifteen year olds playing with us. It is a lot more difficult for me. Next season we are hoping to have a stronger under 20s team with older boys in the team as well pushing to finish high in the league and do well in the cup. Hopefully next season I am back to my old self."

That means scoring goals; two seasons ago James scored more goals that any one else at the club but last season was barren in comparison:-

"I can put that down to missing a lot of game through injury. Still in the games I have played I have not scored as much as I have wanted to and I could do."

James scored on his first team debut against Peterhead in September 2014. The onus is on James to show the manager that he has rediscovered his scoring touch.

"I spoke to him and he is hoping that by the start of the season I am doing well with the under 20s. He is wanting me to push for the first team like I was doing last year, get my chance to make another couple of appearances as a sub under my belt. I need to give him things to think about regards getting into the team because I am at an age where next season is a big year for me.

"It is do or die now, show him what I have got and get a good contract playing with the first team every week. That's my aim.

"Six months could be a good thing for me because if I come back strong like I was last year and he likes what I am doing he can offer me a new contract. It could also be tough if I am not doing so well, then my time could be over at the club."
