Just Potts about Dunfermline
Sunday, 1st May 2016"The manager made it pretty clear a while ago that he wanted me to stay"
John Potter wanted to stay at Dunfermline and he was pleased to sign a new two year contract last week:-
"It is the club that I support, it has been a good season and I think I have been part of that. The manager made it pretty clear a while ago that he wanted me to stay.
"I am happy to do that and I just hope that it will be another successful season next season."
John admitted that it was tricky personally when Allan Johnston and Sandy Clark arrived to take over the management from him and Neil McCann.
"As soon as the manager came in he made it clear what he wanted. You get back into the training and organising, cleaning the kit. It was difficult for myself but once I got back into it then it is normal.
"It has been a good season, I enjoyed it and the first team winning the league helps. The under 20s group has been young, they are improving but could be better. It was nice to see PJ (Crossan) getting in about the first team because that is my main job along with helping with the first team as well."
Potts role will remain the same and he says that he is pleased with the way he, the manager and Sandy Clark have gelled.
"It helps when you know them. I had played with Allan at St Mirren and at Queen of the South for a spell. I knew Sandy from doing my coaching courses and when I played at Queen of the South I met his son Nicky every morning at Sandy's house.
"They are football people, I get on well with them - it was always a worry at the start about how we were going to get on, but the manager made it pretty clear that we were part of a team. Everybody had their jobs and we knew what we were doing.
"We worked quite well together. It has been successful with winning the league, we know it is going to be harder next season. It is a challenge and you want to go and challenge yourself against better players.
"I will work with the under 20s again. My job will be to try and get guys in about the first team. Hopefully some of them will be a bit closer next season. The manager has spoken about having a smaller squad and a stronger 20s to try and push the first team. Hopefully we can do that and it can be a good season all round."
