Finding the answer of what to cook for a young French Moroccan spending Christmas in Scotland was left to a woman from England and when it turned out that the choice was salmon it was the perfect appetiser for a successful Boxing Day.
Faissal El Bakhtaoui was too far away from his home on the French Riviera to be home for Christmas but his team mate Josh Falkingham made sure that he was included in his family celebrations when his mum travelled up from Leeds to cook his family meal in Dunfermline.
While Mrs Falkingham may have been fishing for compliments as she served up the special Christmas dinner with seasonal veg for Faiss, the Pars striker admitted to be totally relaxed on the big day and ideally prepared for the match at Forfar the following day. As it happened the El Bakhtaoui Christmas ended up being merry and bright with a Boxing Day double at Station Park.
Having started the season by scoring a brace in each of his first four competitive matches and repeating that in matches against Dundee and Stenhousemuir, the 23 year old had only scored twice in his last 13 matches. He told the media after the match at Forfar:-
"I was feeling good today and it is good to be back scoring goals. Good to get the win in this weather, it really was a great game for us."
Faiss felt that the cup tie at Ayr was good preparation for the horrible conditions on Saturday when the rain was relentless right through from warm up to the final whistle. He talked us through his goals:-
"It was bad at Ayr as well. My first goal was with my left foot, I will take that. The second I think wax my best goal this year it was a good goal. I took a touch and hit it, I could see all the way that it was going into the net."
His second goal restored the Pars lead after being pegged back to all square at the interval due to an Iain Campbell penalty four minutes from the break. Then he set up team mate Joe Cardle for the third on the hour:-
"I just touched the ball for Joe to run on to it. It was a good finish as well. It was a great celebration with the fans, I will try and copy him next time!"
Ryan Wallace was to put the result out of any question with a fourth Dunfermline goal in 79 minutes and Faiss felt that the three points were by far the most important haul from the wet and windy day in Angus.
"It was important for us to win and start the new year at the top of the league. We have to keep winning and stay top to win the league."
