Josh up for the cup
Friday, 27th Nov 2015Josh Falkingham is hoping to play his part in cup where draw that has not been too kind to the Fifers.
"With it being a cup game it adds a little extra to the game. Where we stand in the league adds even more. It is definitely going to be a difficult place to go, we know that from previous visits there. Ayr are on a fine run of form so we go there hoping to stop that run."
The home defeat to Ayr has so far, been the only match between the teams this season. That was a rude awakening for Allan Johnston's team who know that they will be required to be more competitive against their opponents if they wish to be in the draw for the next round:-
"Obviously they stuck to a game plan when they came to us and they were successful with it. It will be more of the same. The midfielders I played against we're very strong, physical and in some cases, for me, way over the top. They got away with it that day but I will know what to expect this time. They will stick with their game plan because it worked before.
"We will go down there, away from home but for a one off cup game Ayr are favourites. We will need to roll our sleeves up and make sure that hopefully we can do to them what they did to us."
Josh stressed that the outcome of the cup game will have no consequence in the league game between the sides two weeks later.
"We have played them before and this is just another game to add to the four that we play in the league. I will personally not be looking too much into it, maybe other people will."
Josh is in his fourth season at East End Park and although the club has done well financially out of cups there has not been much by way of a cup run for Josh, his best being in his first season at Dunfermline when it lasted until February. The 25 year old feels that drawing Ayr away from home was one of the most difficult draws possible:-
"In the cup, these are one off games but I would love to have a run in the cup because in my time here the furthest we have got was Hamilton just before the quarter finals. You want to win every game, we will look at this game first and foremost.
"The draw has not been good to us but if you can keep progressing through the rounds you are going to reach the big teams. I'd rather get the big teams later on if you can but to start we are in a really tough tie. That's the luck of the cup!"
Josh has recovered from his back injury and after three under 20s appearances and one off the bench for the first team the Yorkshireman feels that he is 100% fit but knows that he needs to await his chance and then take it.
"You want to get back out playing on a Saturday. Sitting on the bench is not an experience that I personally have had. For me I want to be in the starting eleven on a Saturday, playing well and helping the team out."
