Quiet approach to Ayr games
Monday, 23rd Nov 2015"Obviously they are not wanting me to play well there so we will see."
Pars skipper, Andy Geggan thought that his team worked really hard and they were deeply disappointed only to take one point away from Cliftonhill on Saturday. He commented:-
"Obviously the pitch wasn't really great but we cannot blame it on the pitch, I think we just need to just be more clinical. I thought that I had a penalty shout at one point but I asked the ref after it and he said that it was on the line. I thought that was in the box but he said no and he would have given me a free kick but the boys had a lot of chances and we should have got the three points."
Andy had headed the Pars into lead from a 15th minute corner kick and they were almost two ahead just three minutes later. The deflected shot from Faissal El Bakhtaoui could have consolidated the Fifers position but after a clearance off the goal line by a central defender it was the Lanarkshire side that scored next. Andy lamented:-
"It would have been a totally different game if that had gone in. I think Dunlop has done well to get behind it. There was nothing that we could do about the goal, it was a great finish."
For supporters and players alike, interest after matches is always in what was the Ayr score but the 28 year old midfielder warns that Dunfermline just need to keep their heads down. Next weekend Dunfermlne meet Ayr at Somerset Park in the Third Round of the William Hill Scottish Cup.
"We need to try and get the results that we need and see where that takes us at the end of the day. Winning the cup game would help when it comes to the league. We will just keep quiet until next Saturday and see how that goes."
Signed from Ayr United in June 2012, Andy Geggan has watched carefully the fortunes this season of the Honest Men.
"Last year I got a nice welcome but I don't know if I will this year! Obviously they are not wanting me to play well there so we will see."
The last minute yellow card collected on Saturday for his challenge on Ross Davidson takes Andy to six cautions and a suspension will need to be served. Andy added:-
"I don't know if it's the Brechin City or Ayr United league game that I miss. I am not sure. It might take 14 days to kick in so hopefully that is the Brechin game."
