Dunfermline Athletic are pleased to confirm the signing of 23-year-old Reece Cole on a one year contract with an option of a second year. The central midfielder – who began his career with Brentford and was born in nearby Hillingdon – has been on trial with Dunfermline. Home fans may recall him scoring against Dunfermline while on loan to Partick Thistle two seasons back.
A product of the Griffin Park youth system he was with the Bees from under 15s right up to making his senior debut in March 2017. Cole made just one senior appearance for Brentford prior to his release last summer.
He’s also had first team experience in the form of loan spells at four clubs in England’s lower leagues. His first in August 2017 at Newport County where he played five times and scored his first senior goal in a 1-0 away win at Coventry City before his time at Rodney Parade was cut short by a knee injury.
He then had short loan spells at Yeovil Town and Maidenhead before signing on loan with Macclesfield Town in January 2019. There he made 18 first team appearances.
Cole was in good form while at Partick Thistle, featuring 25 times with four goals for the Firhill side between September 2019 and the abrupt end to the 2019-2020 season due to the pandemic. On St Andrew’s Day 2019 against Dunfermline, Reece struck a 75th free kick from 35 yards out sweetly into the bottom left of the home net. The goal was only a consolation however since that made the score 5-1.
On 15 March 2021, Cole signed a short-term contract with the Queens Park Rangers U23 team.
