Dunfermline disappoint in Dumfries

Monday, 22nd Apr 2019

“The boys in the dressing room all felt that we let ourselves down, the coaching staff and the fans who made the journey on Saturday

Jackson Longridge scored a late consolation goal at Palmerston Park on Saturday but was clear that his goal in the fifth minute of time added on at the end did not really mean anything because Dunfermline didn’t come away with a result from the game. He described the match from his perspective:-

“It was a slow start from ourselves. The gaffer and Callum have worked on how we are going to play in training through the week but we just didn’t apply it.”

Dunfermline had first half opportunities before the home side went ahead in the final minute of the first 45. Jackson felt that there could easily have been a different outcome had the visitors scored the opener:-

“Goals change games and I feel that if we had managed to get the first goal it could have been a completely different game and maybe we could have come away with a result.”

The 24 year old defender who won promotion from the Championship through the play offs last season with Livingston conceded that an away win could hardly have been described as deserved:-

“The boys in the dressing room all felt that we let ourselves down, the coaching staff and the fans who made the journey on Saturday. It is just frustrating because it was a game where we had the nerve to go and beat Queens.

“We knew that they would come out fighting, we knew it was a must win game for them as well, so it wasn’t a surprise that they came out the traps to start the game really fast. We had watched videos of them and they try and catch on the counter, they caught us a few times but it is down to us, we should have dealt with the a lot better.

“Once they scored we tried to change the shape to counter Queens as we felt we needed to take control on the pitch a lot more.

“I felt although it was working and we got ourselves into the game a bit more after the first fifteen minutes, the goal just put a dampener on the change of shape. They got their second goal and as much as we tried to get ourselves back in the game we just couldn’t get going.”

With just two league fixtures remaining, Morton followed by Inverness Caley Thistle away Jackson was sure that there would be a concerted effort to put things right by ending on a high:-

“We will look at it on Monday, put it past us and then look at the last two games. Our game at home to Morton is a must win game down. We will work on how to break Morton down to come away with a win.

“They will be two tough games. Morton are the exact same, they have everything to play for as well. We will be looking to go through training this week concentrating on how to break them down and stop them from scoring.”
