Don`t stop believin’ Hold on to the feelin`
Monday, 8th Apr 2019Louis Longridge - ”Everybody is capable of beating each other in this league so we will not stop believing that we can get to the play offs.
Even after sustaining a second half bombardment by relegation threatened Partick Thistle on Saturday, Pars midfielder Louis Longridge felt that the 2-2 scoreline definitely felt like two points dropped.
”I think after being 2-0 up we should have been able to see the game out. We could have done a bit better at the goals we conceded. It is disappointing but a neutral watching the game night have said that a draw was a fair result because of the way Partick Thistle finished the game.
”They put us under a lot of pressure. They had to go for it, they had a good few chances and some would say that you could maybe see it coming.
”They have good quality upfront with Doolan and McDonald, they are goal scorers. It was just us hanging in there trying to prevent that and unfortunately the goal came from a deflected header off James Craigen. Scott McDonald has got into these positions all his career.
”At 2-0 up we had a number of chances, for whatever reason they fell right, left or just didn`t sit right for a few of us. Bruce Anderson had chances, Faiss had a couple of efforts at goal. It was not one individual chance that would have won us the game, you can look back at a number of opportunities that we should have capitalised on.
”If it had gone to 3-0 I think the game was done. They got a goal back which gave them a bit of hope. They are fighting for their lives at the bottom of the table. They were going to fling everything at us and they have got their rewards for that.”
The Pars were as keen as their hosts to pick up points if they were to have any chance of making a play off place. Louis claimed that it felt like a must win game:-
”We started brightly and got 2-0 up, so we feel that it is points dropped. We just need to keep believing. Everybody is capable of beating each other in this league so we will not stop believing that we can get to the play offs.
”That was our goal and obviously it is now a bit more difficult because we knew that we had to go to Firhill and win. We now have a tough game on Tuesday, we need to go up to the Highlands and try and get a positive result. That would help the cause a lot. We can just take it week by week after that and hope that results go our way from now until the end of the season.
”I enjoyed it on Saturday but I didn`t enjoy it on the Friday night against Ayr. I was very disappointed, I felt I was not about to contribute in any way in the game. In football you need to try and put it right the next time you go and play.
”I added two assists against Thistle but unfortunately it wasn`t enough to help us win the game but it has got us a point and I`m delighted with that.”
Dunfermline have not won in the last five matches against Ross County but could the Staggies be nervous given their proximity to clinching the Championship title? Louis is sure that when the sides meet at the Global Energy Stadium it will be a tough one:-
”We will study Ross County and we will stick to our tasks because we are more than capable of beating them especially if we perform the way we did in the first half on Saturday. I believe that we can get something from the game.
”They will have added pressure in going for the title, so we need to go there and try and express ourselves. We will be trying to come back down the road with three points.
”If we can beat the teams above us it will give us hope and gets us closer to the play off spot. We cannot think too far ahead, we need to take each game at a time. It does not come any tougher than the league leaders on Tuesday night. We will go there in a positive mindset and try and get the win.”
