Clark to the fore in opener

Nicky Clark scored four goals for Dunfermline in the Championship match against Dumbarton in March this year and in the opening competitive match of the 2017-2018 season the 26 year old striker started his season`s account with another four goals this time against Elgin City in the Betfred Cup. Nicky told the media:-
"I am delighted after a couple of disappointing results in the pre season friendlies. The boys were terrific and pleased to take the four goals.
"Three headers in the first half and obviously another just after half time. It is a great start.
"You always want to get off to a flying start. I scored 16 last season and hopefully I can beat that this year. We have a good squad in there, the gaffer has brought in a lot of good players and we need to go and push to try to get the club back up into the top division."
Kallum Higginbotham supplied three of the passes that led to Nicky`s goals and his team mate reminded Nicky of the importance of those assists.
"Higgy is great, he gets into good areas and puts great balls into the box. As a striker that is all you can ask for, it is then up to you to put them in and against Elgin they all came off."
The match stats reveal 23 shots by Clark and his teammates and the four goal man praised the work done by Joe Cardle from the other flank too.
"Our aim is to go up this year and you can see with the ability that we have in the squad with Higgy and Joe in the wide areas and look at Michael Paton getting a goal as well. The boys at the back were great.
"We know that it is only a start, we have to keep going, working hard to get where we want to be at the end of the season."
Despite the manager saying that he is on the look out for more players to strengthen his squad, Nicky praised those already in situ:-
"We know that we need to get another three or four in, the gaffer knows what he needs to do and I`m sure that he will get the ones that he wants. But looking at the Elgin result it looks as though the boys are beginning to gel great and with the young boys on the bench and doing well in training they have a right good chance.
"Young Callum Smith did well coming on and scoring. Scotty Lochhead set him up and we have a good squad here and the gaffer will bring in another two or three in and we will go well."
