15/07/17: "It was a really good performance, we just need to make sure that we build on that, not get complacent, do the right things and keep improving as a team."

Allan Johnston felt that his side put in a much better performance against Jim Weir`s League Two side:-

"It was a great start and as I have said before, we are still building up and treating this as part of our pre season games. You can see the boys are getting sharper even continuing on from the the second half at Raith where I thought we passed the ball well.

"There was a wee bit of quality about today with some of the crossing into the box and obviously some of the finishing from Nicky (Clark) was different class.

"He just has that habit of finding space in the box, it is the hardest thing to do. He is obviously a top class finisher, that is why we brought him to the club. If we put balls in good areas, he will score goals, I have no doubt about that."

So successful was Nicky that his first half hat trick had Dunfermline 4-0 ahead at half time. The result was settled and that is a situation that the manager feels can stifle a second half, he added:-

"I think overall it was a really good performance throughout the whole team. We passed the ball really well with a really good tempo. Sometimes in games like that it is always hard in the second half but even in the second half I thought the boys kept at it.

"The most important thing was that we didn`t get slack, we kept on going and then we got a wee boost as well with the young boys coming on. Callum Smith scored a good goal."

Four goals from Nicky Clark certainly sets the team up for the remainder of the Betfred Cup games, the manager continued:-

"Last season he missed pre season so that always makes it difficult. He still managed to score a lot of goals but you can see the form that he is in. He has been like that since the start of pre season, he has been flying.

"There were a lot of good performances today. I do not know how Joe Cardle never scored. He must have had about forty efforts and he is not happy in there.

"It was a really good performance, we just need to make sure that we build on that, not get complacent, do the right things and keep improving as a team."

Kallum Higginbotham demonstrated just what a threat he can be and AJ added:-

"He had three assists. We say to him that we want more goals from him as well. He was a bit unlucky, Callum Smith took one off his tie towards the end.

"It is something that he needs to add to his game but overall he is a top class player and I`m sure that he is going to go from strength to strength this season as well."
