The last time Dunfermline met East Fife in this competition on 23rd August 2011 it was in the Second Round of what was then called the Scottish Communities League Cup. Bobby Linn`s fifth minute opener was equalised by Liam Buchanan seven minutes later. But Scott Dalziel goal ten minutes into the second half was enough to win the tie.
There have been few recent meeting in this cup competition. The tie in August 1988 went to penalties and the Pars won through to face Motherwell. The only other Pars successes were in season 1958/59 and the record shows East Fife have won six of the nine meetings.

Former Pars keeper Greg Paterson saved a fourth minute penalty from Ross Forbes and heroically kept the Pars out until Forbes eventually got the better of him just before half time. Ryan Wallace scored the second from a Ryan Williamson cut back in 74 minutes before Danny Grainger marked his Dunfermline debut with a right footed goal.
The home side`s consolation predictably came from former Par Paul Willis just two minutes later.
