Lewis Martin relishes start against Rangers:- "I would just love to get a shot against them.

Lewis in the thick of the celebration at Gayfield

For a seventeen year old, Lewis Martin completed a memorable week by playing his second full game for Dunfermline. Having made his senior starting debut at Ayr the previous Saturday he then travelled to Largs in midweek for a get together for the Scotland under 18s and started again for the Pars 3-0 win over Arbroath.

Lewis revealed his thoughts on the Largs experience:-

"It was good. Me and Ryan Williamson both did well in the training and the boys from the likes of Celtic and Manchester United were good to train with. We have to report back on February 19th for another training camp."

The Pars pair's first time in the Scotland U18 camp was curtailed by the need to return to Dunfermline to prepare for their League One match at Arbroath. In the absence of Callum Morris with an Achilles injury, Lewis was to play in a back four that had a fair amount of experience of playing together but in the Dunfermline U20s. With two seventeen year olds and two twenty year olds, the combined age of the Pars back four was less than 77 years. He continued:-

"It was better to come back to play first team football. It was brilliant to come back to play beside big Kerr Young. We played all last season in the under 20s and did well, so it was good to play next to him again."

Like the match at Somerset Park the Gayfield experience was no different with wind making it a potential nightmare for defenders. Lewis expanded:-

"It was terrible. Our passes in the first half were going all over the place because of the wind."

The next match gives Lewis an opportunity to start his first home match when the opposition will be Rangers. Lewis from Bonnybridge, came up through the youth system at Rangers before joining Dunfermline at U17 level and is really keen to face Ally McCoist's league leaders:-

"Hopefully I can continue to do well in training and start against Rangers. The boys that I was there with are not near the first team, they are still in the under 17s or under 20s."

Lewis is hoping that his family who have so far missed his first team appearances through work commitments will be able to be present for the Monday night match at East End Park:-

"I would just love to get a shot against them. I do not know any of the first team boys, the physio is the nearest to the first team that I know."

Lewis may not know too much about Rangers but right now it is clear that Rangers will have been watching Jim Jefferies' team and will know plenty about Lewis Martin!
