Nikolay delivers on his promise of more goals

Dunfermline striker Nikolay Todorov said before Saturday’s game against Queen of the South that he loved scoring goals and loved helping his team in any way he can. After scoring against the Dumfries club for the second time this season he was happy to look at it as a point gained rather than two lost:-

“I know it was at home but we came from behind and it might end up a very good point towards the end of the season.”

Nikolay’s equaliser midway through the second half cancelled out Ruari Paton’s first half opener, and it came after an Aaron Comrie throw in was threaded through by Kane Ritchie-Hosler for the right back to centre. Nikolay added:-

“It was a cross from the right-hand side and I just managed to pin the defender and just be stronger than him. I just did what I do!”

A 53rd minute substitute for Sam Fisher, Nikolay had a chance to snatch a win near the end and he claimed that his effort was as close as it could get without ending up in the Queens net:-

“From where I was, I saw it was probably millimetres away, so I’m gutted that didn’t go in. But, as I say, a point is a point and I’m happy for the boys that we dug in and managed to come from behind.”

Digging in to come from behind demonstrated the team’s continuing determination to fight back from adversity:-

“It’s been like that all season, from every single one of the boys. The coaches and the players and everyone have been sticking together and we show that on the pitch. That’s not the first game that it’s happened, we’ve come from behind in other games. We’ve managed to win some games towards the end. That’s what we do and we’re hoping to keep it going.

“Every single striker we have in the team is different, and I was lucky enough we got a few decent crosses and I got onto one of them. I’m delighted I managed to go on and help the team. The manager has been brilliant with me, he needs to take credit for that, and I’m more than happy to repay the trust.”

In his 22 appearances this season Nikolay has made more as a substitute than as a starter but he stressed that there are no individuals within the team:-

“As long as we are winning games there is no problem with me. As long as we are winning and we are doing well, I don’t mind. We are all a team. I want to use the frustration in the right direction. It is a long season and we are doing well.

“I’ve never been the guy who is going to start destroying things when they are going well. If I can contribute and get us back up I will give my all. If that’s by scoring goals then I’m more than happy.”
