Swapshop Pars fan returns to East End

BRUCE WHYTE 220214

Life-long Pars fan Bruce Whyte back in the early 80's attended Pars games every week to cheer on his heroes like John Salton and Jim 'Ziggy' Bowie, but was always encountering problems in the terraces, being a young diabetic he needed to take his medication into the games, but stewards and ground security at the time, made it very difficult.

So, at the time, he wrote to cult BBC Children's programme, Swapshap about the problems he was incurring. After the club hearing about this, then chairman Mel Rennie wanted to meet Bruce personally, subsequently Bruce was giving a tour of East End Park, met his heroes and was offered a seat in the directors box for life!

Bruce, now 48 still attends Pars games when he can, along with his 3 kids, Craig, Michael and Molly, who are all Pars fans too.

BRUCE WHYTE

"I still come along when l can to cheer us on, you can feel a real change in the atmosphere around the place these days, it's very similar to how it felt going from the late 70s into the Jim Leishman period of the 80's".

General Manager Ross McArthur said: "our Football Club touches so many different people, and it is great that Bruce now attends games with his family, as I do myself. That is why many people fought so hard to save the club, to protect its proud legacy for future generations. It was also interesting to hear from Bruce that our chairman at the time wanted to speak to him personally, which speaks volumes for Mr Rennie and demonstrates how the club was run at the time, which is what we are all working hard to replicate."
