Ryan running to return prepared

Wednesday, 13th May 2015

"I think me and the club just want to put this season behind us and go again next year.

Aberdeen celebrated their SPFL Development League title by switching their home game against Dunfermline to Pittodrie on Tuesday 5th May. The turnstiles were in operation but there was no admission charge which meant a crowd of 1854 turned up. Ryan Williamson spoke to the website after the match and he felt that the match was special for Dunfermline as well. He said:-

"It gave us a chance to go, impress and show what we were capable of. In the first half we definitely more than matched them, we passed the ball about very well. Obviously we got a goal but in the second half we maybe didn't pass the ball as well as we could. We still showed that we were more than able to compete with them and put up a fight. I feel that we were unfortunate not to get something out of the game."

Ryan set up the Pars equaliser on the half hour mark, he described how it came about:-

"I just set off, God knows where I was going. I saw the boy coming at me so I just cut inside and took it past a couple of opponents. One of them actually clipped me and I thought the referee was going to give the free kick but he played advantage and I was able to take the boy on and get in the cross. I was just glad to see James (Thomas) there as he is always is, to tap it into the net. It was good to get back into the game then and silence the crowd a bit.

"It was just quite unfortunate to lose the goals that we did. It was just a case of losing two sloppy goals. The gaffer said the second one was offside. We were more than in it and competed well. I didn't think they troubled Jamie Wilson too much.

"We had chances of our own when wee Johnny Galloway had an opportunity and even though they were in front, we could very easily have been in front ourselves."

Ryan had played in the first team's final League One match of the season on the previous Saturday but there was a much bigger crowd at Pittodrie than at the Excelsior Stadium when Dunfermline met Airdrieonians.

"You like playing on a big pitch like at Pittodrie but with having the crowd there as well is a massive boost. They weren't there for us but we had the chance as a team to show what we are capable of and represent the club in a good manner."

The 19 year old is one of the players who has a contract for next season, he commented:-

"I am in a wee bit different situation from the other boys who are going away not sure what is happening. I am grateful that I have another year and looking forward to getting back and showing the new manager what I can do.

"Both for the team and for me the season has been a bit of a nightmare. My injury was a massive setback. I have not really recovered from then. I think me and the club just want to put this season behind us and go again next year. We will be looking to get the club back to where it belongs by trying to win the league. We need to go and do it. We will do everything we can to make sure that happens."

When pre season starts Ryan is promising that he will be in good shape. The youngster seems to get taller all the time but he knows that it would help if he could bulk up a bit:-

"I always keep on top of my fitness and after maybe just two weeks off, I will be back into it. I will start running and do a lot of ball work."
