Ryan Wallace Post Cowdenbeath

Sunday, 28th Jul 2013

"It was good to come here and get the win but it is not just Cowdenbeath that we can beat.

"If you go by crowds and clubs then Dunfermline are probably the biggest club in Fife

Ryan Wallace was substituted just two minutes from the end of the match against Cowdenbeath but for him it was his first near full game since the end of April. His return to competitive action was not a particularly happy one for him because he felt that the first half was not a fantastic Pars performance. He admitted that Jim Jefferies had given him and his team mates a bit of a half time roasting:-

"The second half was like night and day and it proved just how good the squad is. Even though we are young it shows that we can beat a First Division team. The team is good enough for that level, all the young lads are very very capable of playing at that level."

The Cowdenbeath goalkeeper Thomas Flynn pulled off a few saves including from Ryan:-

"Thomas is a good goalkeeper but that's football at the end of the day. Whoever takes their chances wins, today we took our chances and they didn't."

The local derby win left the Pars in possession of the bragging rights and Ryan felt that was merited:-

"If you go by crowds and clubs then Dunfermline are probably the biggest club in Fife. Obviously Cowdenbeath are in the First Division and saying that we are a bigger team than us. Today shows you that we are still the bigger club and it is not our fault that we got relegated."

While the players paid for the off field problems with relegation they feel that the blame lies elsewhere:-

"There is a lot more behind the scenes, it is not our problem. Obviously we got deducted fifteen points and it went into play offs and a battle. You cannot put that on the young lads shoulders and expect them all to rise up. They did brilliantly to get to where we got to but at the end of the day it was a big ask to go away to Alloa and Forfar.

"It was good to come here and get the win but it is not just Cowdenbeath that we can beat. We went to Morton last season with a young squad and beat them. We went to Partick Thistle and drew with them and that gives you the incentive to kick on.

"There are a lot of young lads in the squad, a lot of on loan players coming in and doing well. There are places up for grabs and everybody has to play well, keep doing what they are doing in training to get a game."

Ryan Wallace v Cowdenbeath

Ryan scored 12 goals in 37 appearances last season and is naturally keen to get off his mark this season. He didn't manage that against Cowdenbeath but did feel he was in positions to do so:-

"Ryan Ferguson could have squared the ball to me but he didn't. I am just happy to be in to the next round, we can move on to the next game and hopefully get a goal next week."

East Stirlingshire will provide the opposition in next Saturdays Scottish Communities League Cup but the Ramsden Cup will be an easier ask when it comes to bringing silverware to East End Park:-

"It is important to do well in any cup, at the end of the day silverware is silverware and the club could be doing with some silverware to put a smile on a lot of people's faces. We will just take it as it comes and for the moment we will just keep plodding along. If we could win silverware then that would be brilliant."
