Ross Campbell Post Ayr

Monday, 22nd Feb 2010

"I am glad to come back, Dunfermline is a nice club - I think SPL standard compared to the way the club is run.

Ross Campbell

Ross Campbell claimed that the Ayr game was one that they were planning to win so it turned out to be a tough defeat. The striker explained his career between returning to Hibs after a loan at Dunfermline in September 2008 and coming on to make his second Pars debut at half time in Saturday's game:-

"I am glad to get back playing again. I had a wee spell out since I got back from Sweden - that is my first competitive game since November so on a personal level I was glad to get a decent run to get back match fitness.

"I want to play up front, that is my position and although there a few options here with Kirky and Bayne being injured hopefully I can get a wee chance. I need to persuade the manager that I deserve a place in the team."

Ross joined Lee Makel's team IFK Oestersund in Sweden's First Division North who had accumulated only five points until he helped them away from any relegation problems:

"I got injured in the first week and was out for four so I ended up playing only eight games. It was a new experience for me, I quite enjoyed it but it was always going to be a short term deal because their season shuts down in November. The standard over in Sweden was decent but I am glad to get back playing at a decent level here."

Fixing up a club proved to be none too easy a task:-

"I was really struggling to get places due to international clearance; you can't get a trial for any team until you get commitment from the club and the player. I was struggling to get games so I gave Jim McIntyre a phone and he told me that it was a kind of ideal time for him because of his striker situation. He has given me a chance here until the end of the season. Hopefully I can impress him and get another contract."

The 22 year old was disappointed to make his Dunfermline return in such a poor match:-

"I thought I could have got on the end of some things better today but that will come with getting more minutes, more match sharpness. Hopefully I can get a few goals here from now until the end of the season."

Dunfermline v Ayr United

Having served a month long loan at Dunfermline in September 2008 Ross knows most of the players at East End Park:-

"A few new faces have come in from Clyde but most of the boys I knew. I enjoyed my time here the last time and it was a situation where I wanted to stay, Dunfermline were wanting to keep me but for some reason Mixu Paatelainen wanted me back at Hibs. I never really played when I went back so I was a wee bit bitter about that.

"I am glad to come back, Dunfermline is a nice club - I think SPL standard compared to the way the club is run. We can push on, maybe not this season, and get them back up in the top flight."
