Little did Lee Robinson realise when he came off the pitch at Palmerston Park having just been defeated by Dunfermline in the final match of last season that his next competitive match would be for his opponents.
That probably seemed even further away when he was released by Queens in September last year. After eight months out the keeper made an impressive return to Championship football with a clean sheet and the Man of the Match award for the Pars in that all important New Year Derby against Falkirk at East End Park. He told the media how he was fit enough to start:-
"I have been training just as much really. Doing stuff at home in Sunderland and I have been abroad a few times doing a bit of training so I feel as good as ever. I enjoyed my first run out for a while."
Lee only got the call on Sunday afternoon and spent Hogmanay night travelling up for training the next morning. Not great preparation he claimed but it certainly worked out fine. He continued:-
"I only wanted to play again if I got the right opportunity. If I didn`t do it I would regret it. I couldn`t have got a better club, after leaving a club that wasn`t as good as Dunfermline you don`t expect to come back after eight months out, to a club like this. I appreciate it."
The 31 year old keeper was already well known to manager Allan Johnston and Sandy Clark having worked under them in Queen of the South`s Challenge Cup and League double season so they had no reservations in pitching him straight into a derby.
The new boy did not let his old boss down, his performance kept Falkirk out and he admitted to be quietly content with his Dunfermline debut, he said:-
"I feel good, that is what I should be doing. I have had fourteen years of not doing as well as I should have done. I have had some great days but overall I have underachieved. I have had time out and if I am going to do it, it will be now. I am really grateful for this opportunity and it has been a great two days so far.
"It has all worked out well. I did not expect to be at a club like this after how I have done over the last year or two. It is a great opportunity, I know exactly where I have gone wrong before, hopefully I can build on it and enjoy my football again.
"I thought I`d give it a go. It is a great club and I would love to do really well and get my career started properly. I will take it game by game."
