The curtain is raised on the 2010-11 First Division season with the Pars travelling to Falkirk to meet the side newly relegated from the SPL and the one most tipped to return there next season. Dunfermline's last game in the SPL back in May 2007 was against Falkirk in front of an East End Park crowd of 5087. That was a 3-0 home defeat but only Calum Woods remains from the team that Stephen Kenny put out that day.
Results against the Auld Enemy contributed to the Pars demise that season; four defeats and not even one goal scored against the Bairns. It was the 3-0 home defeat to Falkirk on 4th November that sent Dunfermline to the foot of the SPL table, a position they were not to improve on for the rest of the season.
Now that Falkirk are back in the First Division for the first time since 2005, it is Dunfermline they meet first. Dunfermline are unbeaten in the last five meetings in the First Division with the Bairns last winning in January 1994.
The last meeting between the teams was in the Semi Final of the 2008-09 Scottish Cup when goals by Tam Scobbie and Scott Arfield earned Falkirk a 2-0 win.

Steven Pressley's side's only competitive match so far was at Forthbank where they went out of the Alba Challenge Cup on penalties to Stirling after neither team scored in 120 minutes. Falkirk had a bye in the Co-operative Insurance Cup but played Owen Coyle's Bolton Wanderers at the Falkirk Stadium last Saturday. Again they failed to score.
Dunfermline played Arbroath in both cup competitions and both at East End Park. The second victory by 5-2 was more emphatic.
