Pars Winner, Ask Watson

Twenty nine year old Paul Watson has s far scored twice for Dunfermline and both times his goal has been the match winner. On Saturday his added time flick on Kyle Turner’s free kick ended up in the Clyde net to earn the Pars a 3-2 win and seeding in the second round draw of the Betfred Cup.
The winner brought a welcome finale to a Dunfermline come back that required three goals in the final thirty minutes but the reaction to it from the big central defender gave the hint that he had a role in putting it past the Clyde goalkeeper, Matej Vajs. He told the post match media:-
“It was a good ball in and I just glanced it, I was hoping to get a bit more on it but it did just enough to put the goalie off and he helped me to be fair. He tried to get it and just missed it. It was just a small glance but I will take it. It maybe wouldn’t have gone in had I got more on it.”
One down to an Ally Love goal ten minutes before half time, Clyde increased their lead when Mark Lamont struck just six minutes into the second half. Paul praised his team’s attitude to come back from two goals down:-
“We have winners in our team so we did very well to dig that out and win 3-2. We knew if we won the game that we would be seeded. It is a big thing because we want to have a good cup run and hopefully we can do that. I am really looking forward to seeing who we get.
“We were a bit disappointed at half time because we felt that we did really well in the first half. We were patient with the ball, we moved it well. I think they had two shots at goal, I might be wrong, and two goals. It was just a couple of sloppy mistakes from us really. We will look to rectify that this week ahead of Friday night.
“It has been a solid start for us but it is early days” Paul reminded everyone but the seventh win in eight unbeaten games keeps the winning mentality going and sets them up nicely for Friday night’s home match against Hearts. He continued:-
“We are really focused on the league and really want to do well to get this club back up there. It is going to be a really difficult challenge against Hearts who are massive favourites for the league. We will be organised and we will really looking forward to it.”
Hearts gaffer, Robbie Neilson was Paul ‘s manager at Dundee United last season and he added:-
“I have worked with Robbie before he is a great manager and has good coaching staff. They will be looking to come here and dominate but hopefully we can have an upset and win the game.
“All his sides are well organised, they like to keep the ball. They can do the dirty side of the game well as well. They have great players, you just need to look at Naismith and Boyce up top, two internationalists and they have real quality throughout.
“We will be working hard this week to stop that. We want to play these big games, hopefully we can get a positive result to keep us right up there in the league.”
