Mochrie hoping for East End Bounce

Tuesday, 25th Oct 2022

Chris Mochrie:- “Hopefully we can get back to our best next Saturday at East End and please the fans again."

On loan Dundee United player Chris Mochrie hadn’t lost a game in his ten Dunfermline appearances up until Saturday’s match. Opponents Montrose defended well however, and when put under pressure but their keeper Ross Sinclair, on loan from St Johnstone, made crucial saves at critical times. Chris stressed that this first defeat should not be allowed to upset the Pars season:-

"We`ve been on a good run this season and hopefully we can put it right next week. The gaffer just said as soon as we came in `keep the heads up and don`t let that affect you too much’. The team spirit is still there and all we want to do now is go again next week and put in a good performance hopefully."

Chris was really the leading Fifers firing power at Links Park, not shy to take a pop, he severely tested the Montrose keeper either side of half time and came bitterly close to scoring, he continued:-

"I had a few chances and maybe on another day I get a couple of goals but it just wasn`t my day, or the team`s. That happens in football, it`s just about how we react now."

That opportunity to bounce back from the team’s first league defeat of the season will come on Saturday in the local derby against Kelty Hearts. He accepted that a defeat was most likely going to happen at some stage and hoped for a reaction like the one that followed the 2-2 draw at home to Peterhead:-

“That game was a good example. We weren`t at our best, didn`t get the best result, but the next week we came out and put in a good performance. Hopefully we can do that again next week."

Since Dunfermline met Montrose in August, Stewart Petrie’s side have gone on a good run winning six of the next nine, drawing one and losing just two. The Angus side’s resolve was not something that surprised the 19 year old since he made 24 appearances for them while on loan there during the 2020-2021 season:-

"They`re a tough team to play. I was there, I would know. They`re tough to beat and they can probably take points off a lot of teams in this league. Unfortunately they`ve done that to us.

"I played there before so I knew what it was going to be like. But, like I say, every game has been tough. There are no easy games. A lot of the games we`ve had to grind at the end. We just have to keep our standards up and keep going."

The player who is on a season long loan from Dundee United described the post match mood in the dressing room which manager James McPake did not allow to dwell:-

"Initially we were disappointed. The gaffer said to keep the mood up, we got the tunes on again and just kept going. We`ve been good this year and one bad result can`t affect the whole season. We`ve just got to bounce back now. It will be another tough game against Kelty Hearts, there`s a lot of tough games in this league, it was a tough game against them last time. Hopefully we can get back to our best next Saturday at East End and please the fans again."
