McMullans lucky strike

When it comes to scoring goals it appears Paul McMullan keeps them all for cup ties. The 20 year old who is on loan from Celtic opened his account against Brechin in the Irn Bru Cup and followed that up with Scottish Cup goals at Buckie and now at Alloa.
He is now keen to play for Dunfermline again in the next round against Hamilton. Now a home tie affords him the chance to score in front of his own fans since all his goals have been scored on the road.
The only Cup draw that would not have suited Paul was against Celtic. While others would want to avoid them because they are favourites, Paul would be excluded since he cannot play against his mother club. He said:-
"When you get to that stage in the cup, every team is a good team. Probably a home tie is all that you could ask for."
The Cup goalscoring specialist admitted that his goal at Alloa was not really intended as a shot:-
"I went on an overlap and then just tried to place the ball into an area but when everybody missed it, it went straight in. I cannot say that it was deliberate, i just put it in an area and lucky for me it has gone in."
The winger felt that Dunfermline dominated the first half and his goal just two minutes before the break was the ideal time to score:-
"To get the two goals, which I felt we deserved, gives you the breathing space to relax. That showed in early stages of the second half when our play was really good. We got the third goal that killed the game."
There were several chances that were not taken, Paul felt that if he was knit picking then they should have scored a couple more but the main thing is that Dunfermline Athletic are through to the next round.
The level of competition appears to be having the desired ambition to drive the team on.
"When guys come into the team, they want to do well and keep their place. The same applies to those trying to stay in, they need to play well to keep their place. It is something that is driving everybody on and something that is really healthy for the squad.
"There are really good players who can play in my position so I know that I have to be at it every week or there is a chance that I could be sitting watching for a few weeks. That is something that I don`t want because I have experienced that already this year."
