It was a disappointed Peter Grant who spoke to the media after his side’s 1-0 defeat away to Queen of the South stating that “it was as poor a game as he had ever been involved in.
“It was a really poor first half, I wouldn’t have like to have paid any money to watch it, so I know how difficult it must be for other people to watch it. Having said that we were a bit better. We changed it a little bit and we were a bit better that’s all I would say.
“It had nil nil written all over it and probably that is what it deserved if you don’t do your job. We weren’t switched on at the free kick and we were shouting from the side. You let people go and then you give a corner away.
“From the corner we tried to play it out of danger and there are times you have to put it in row Z or clear it up the pitch. You had two people standing up the pitch but that’s decision making. As I say it was a really poor game and a really poor day all round.”
Asked about being subject of the fans reaction, Peter replied:-
“You expect that if you don’t win games of football. I have told you that from day one, every time you don’t win a game of football that is the case. I am more disappointed in the performance than in anything else.
“My job is to win games of football, if you don’t win games of football you know the consequences. It has not been because of lack of effort and commitment to try and do the right thing and get the right thing.
“I must admit it was very difficult to watch a team representing me today, never mind the club playing the way we did in the first half especially.”
Asked if he was confident that he would get the chance to try and turn things around, the manager replied:-
“That is not for me to answer, you are asking the wrong person. Put it this way, I can tell you 100 per cent I won’t be quitting because I do my job 100 per cent. I know what my job is and I know what is expected of my job and I will work 100 per cent every day. It will not be for me, that will be someone else’s decision.
“If that may be, I have had nothing but support here from Thomas and Ross. I have had fantastic support but I would understand if I was not the manager, no problem. The one thing I can say is that I have given everything to try and do it right.”
You sound like you believe that you can still turn it around?
“I wouldn’t be standing talking to you, I am so gutted and disappointed with the performance today that is the biggest bugbear for me. I know the consequences of not winning football matches and the run that we are on.
“People might say misfortune throughout it, there have been different things that have happened that we can’t speak too much about. At the end of the day, with the group and the work that the staff has put in. In this situation Thomas knows the work that we put in but I know the bottom line is that you have to get results on a Saturday.
“Unfortunately that is not the case and I know the consequences when that is not the case.”
The manager also confirmed that Graham Dorrans was missing due to an injury picked up near the end of Wednesday’s match against Raith Rovers.
