Acknowledgement for former Club Captain, Scott Thomson

Scott Thomson

Stephen Kenny has thanked Scott Thomson for his five years as Club Captain.  He told the website:-

"I have appointed Scott Wilson as Club Captain but I want to express gratitude to Scott Thomson who has captained Dunfermline for several seasons with great pride.

"He can overcome his injury problems and get back into the team and get back to playing which is what he wants most of all in his testimonial season.

Scott Thomson was appointed Club Captain on the departure of Ian Ferguson in 2002 and continued in that role until this week when Stephen Kenny decided that he wanted a Club Captain on the park.  Nipper's nightmare injury record had restricted him to leading the side out on only five occasions under Stephen Kenny's stewardship.

Having missed the whole of last season Scott has been plagued by injury since impressing in pre season.  His first 90 minutes of competitive football since April 2006 was in the home defeat against Morton.  He had to come off at half time in the BK Hacken match with a thigh injury but made it back for the home win over Stirling ten days later.

A calf injury meant he had to be substituted just before half time in the St Johnstone game on 2nd September but he returned as a second half substitute at the end of the month against Partick Thistle.  On 2nd October a knee injury caused his withdrawal at half time and following surgery on a cartelege he was back running this week.  Scott is expected back in full training next week.

Talking earlier this week Stephen Kenny told the Dunfermline Press about his decision to make the change:-

"I had to take stock during the week and we seemed rudderless on the pitch in the last two weeks so we made the decision to change the captain.  Scott Thomson and Greg Shields are excellent people around the place, great clubmen.  We've been passing the armband around because players have been injured .

"We are in a certain situation that requires dramatic action.  Scott Wilson plays every week and when he was captain in the games against Rangers and Hearts last season, he seemed to excel himself and assume more responsibility."
