Kane is able for Scottish Cup

Friday, 20th Jan 2023

KRH:- “the fact we’ve been picking up results means everyone is confident. We just want to keep that going and keep gathering momentum.”

Dunfermline’s on-loan Ranger Kane Ritchie-Hosler is cup tied as far as the SPFL Trust Trophy is concerned but he is keen to play his part in the Scottish Cup. Kane made his first Pars start in the Third Round win over Forfar Athletic at the end of November and he marked that with his first senior goal, the second in the 4-0 victory.

Kane is optimistic that Saturday’s Scottish Cup tie away to Partick Thistle can fight off the severe cold weather. He was one of five substitutes that James McPake used in last weekend’s win over Peterhead and is delighted that it sent Dunfermline into the cup break seven points clear at the top of League One:-

“It was great. We just want to keep that going. The way we’re playing, everyone is full of confidence right now and everyone is such an important part of the team. We have players coming back as well, which is great.”

Since arriving on loan Kane has made seven Dunfermline appearances, 3 starts and 4 as a sub. The 20 year old feels that he has really benefited from his spell at East End Park:-

“I played in the last round and if I get minutes again that would be great. It’s good experience for me. If I’m coming on, I’m hoping to make an impact and if I’m starting then I’m just trying to be creative and stuff like that. I’ve enjoyed being here and playing men’s football. So, hopefully I can get more minutes and keep going the way I am.”

Kane started playing football with Manchester City at the age of six before moving to Rangers ten years later. He is pleased that his parent club has agreed to continue his loan at Dunfermline until the end of this season. He confirmed:-

“I wanted it to happen. Getting more minutes has been great for me and I just want to keep it going. Rangers are in regular contact, so they’re happy with me and my progress coming here and trying to make an impact. So, everything’s great.

“Billy Kirkwood comes and watches the games, just to see how I am doing. He’s pleased with everything and how it’s been going.”

Although the main target is the league campaign, a cup run with Dunfermline would be another bonus from his loan:-

“We would love to get on a cup run, of course, and I’m just excited. It’s another team we’re coming up against, one from a higher division, but we obviously want to get through to the next round. Facing a team from a different league helps us see where we’re at. We’re top of our league at the minute but they’re a Championship side, so it will be a very good test for us.”

The Fifers have already demonstrated that they can compete against Championship opposition when they faced Arbroath away in the SPFL Trust Trophy. Kane added:-

“We’ll go there with confidence and just go into it and try to play our best game. The way the boys played against Arbroath was great and to win 5-1 was a great result against a team from the Championship. That will stand us in good stead for this one.

“The way we’ve been playing and the fact we’ve been picking up results means everyone is confident. We just want to keep that going and keep gathering momentum.”
