Hopkirk's happier hamstrings

Fitter every day with full time football

A goal is a goal and David Hopkirk wasn't too bothered how the Pars opening goal went in. Some thought that the 22 year old had netted it but even he had to concede that the ball had been deflected into his own net by Ayr defender Nicky Devlin.

"I was trying to fire it across the front of goal but it took a deflection. I think we were needing a goal, so I wasn't caring how it went in.

"We took our time to get a goal but we just needed to be patient and hopefully we score goals. The second one came from my corner. I thought that I would change it and go for the front post. Geggsie obviously said put it there. He is good at scoring goals like that, he got a touch on it and it was a good header."

The win kept the Pars in touch with the four teams above them of whom only Forfar won on Saturday. The striker signed from Annan Athletic during the January transfer window stressed that the Stirling match now becomes the centre of attention.

"We just have to go game by game and not really think about anyone else. Next week it is at home to Stirling and we need to take another three points and with Stenny after that it could be another nine points. We will go game by game and build it up."

David is relishing being back in full time football, he added:-

"At the start I was getting tight hamstrings and sore feet but I am getting used to it again. I am getting fitter every day by working hard. It seems to benefit me."

Saturday was the first time that John Potter had started both Paul George and David Hopkirk in a match:-

"It was good having both wings to go down. It gave more options and it is better for the fans to watch as well. We created more I thought."
