For the Record(s)
Tuesday, 9th May 2023This has been such a record breaking year for Dunfermline Athletic so here is a run down of the records that have been set.
A full league season without being beaten at home.
18 league matches, two League Cup ties, one Scottish Cup tie and one SPFL Trust Trophy.
Only on three previous occasions have Dunfermline gone through a full season undefeated at home:-
1912/13 (first season in Scottish League)
1925/26 (when Bobby Skinner broke scoring record), and
1932/33 undefeated in the league.
Fewest away league matches lost in a season.
Just the one defeat away to Montrose in October. The previous record stood at two defeats which was achieved twice - seasons 1948/49 and 1994/95.
Fewest League Defeats in a Season:
Taken across the whole league programme, home and away, only one defeat beats the previous record of four league losses in a full season, achieved playing at a higher level in the First Division in 1994/95.
Fewest Goals Scored Against in a League Season:
With 21 goals against in total, home and away the team smashed the record that stood at 27 set in Dunfermline`s first ever league season in 1912/13. Back then there were only 26 league games however. The lowest goals against in an equivalent contest was 2015/16 in League One when the team conceded 30 goals.
Dunfermline have also conceded the fewest goals in the top eight divisions in British football.
Fewest goals conceded at home in a League Season:
Dunfermline conceded 10 goals breaking the 11 goals record from 1994/95.
Fewest goals conceded away in a League Season:
Dunfermline conceded 11 goals away from home in the league. The record stood from 1972/73 when 13 goals were conceded away from home.
Shut-outs - all records broken!
Deniz Mehmet achieved his 24th shut out of the season and in doing so surpassed Ian Westwater’s individual club record from season 1985/1986.
Highest number of consecutive league games undefeated:
Record broken and the season ended with the run at 24.
Highest number of league points acheved by DAFC:
Having finished on 81 points the record of 79 from season 2015/16 was also overtaken.
In season 1993-1994 Dunfermline achieved 65 but that was when a win only earned two points. Had it been three for a win they would have amassed 94.
And Finally` -to score 20 goals in league and cup matches in a season.
Craig Wighton’s opener at Alloa in the final match took him to his 20th and took him into a select ‘club’. He is only the sixth Pars player this century to reach 20 in a season.
The others are: Faisal El Bakhtaoui (30, season 2015/16), Stevie Crawford (23, season 2002/03); Kevin Nisbet (23, season 2019/20), Andy Kirk (21, season 2010/11), Nicky Clark (21, season 2017/18).
