Darren Young Post St Mirren

Sunday, 24th Sep 2006

"I just went mental when I scored. I was disappointed when the ref booked me because I ran off the park."

First comments were about the transformation that saw a vastly different display in the second 45 minutes of the match:-

"It was night and day but I didn't think we played that bad in the first half. We lost a bad goal but I don't think there was that much more happening in the game. The keeper did not have many more saves to make; we had a few half chances but obviously we did a lot better in the second half and made more chances. We got a couple of good goals. We are delighted with that and the three points that will take us up the table.

"Some of our passing in the first half was crap; mine in particular. It is just the way these things are; one minute they are booing you the next they are up wanting to jump on top of you. You take the good with the bad.

"I don't score many but that is two for the season already so I am on my way to break my record. It was a good start I played the ball to Shieldsie and he has played the ball forward and in ten to fifteen seconds the goal gave us a lift as well. Craw has had a great strike and he was unlucky with another couple. The hero has come back and he has produced again for us.

"I just went mental when I scored. I was disappointed when the ref booked me because I ran off the park. I said what about the other half of the team who left the park. It is not as if I took my top off; it was just half way off just celebrating and loosening up when you score a good goal like that. He just ushered me away, it seems there are rules for some and rules for others."

Darren acknowledged that it important for the midfield to contribute on the goalscoring front and was happy to follow examples from Stephen Simmons and Gary Mason:- "I am top goalscorer now, but that won't last for long!"

Asked what the Manager's crazed animal act had been like at half time Darren said:-

"He went mental and he had every right to do so. We have underperformed on Wednesday night and then again on Saturday in the first half. We know we can play a lot better. It is not like him, he has never really been like that before. Obviously his few words has inspired us at the start of the second half. We started passing the ball about and creating chances."

Darren saw little of the 69th minute incident when Souleymane Bamba reacted to what he claimed to be a kick from Kirk Broadfoot:-

"The TV evidence will reveal what happened. Bamba is a big lad and he also took his top off after the game to show them what was on offer."

Two important wins from the last two home fixtures have resurrected the Pars season, Darren reflected:-

"We have come from behind in both games; twice against Kilmarnock then again going behind to St Mirren. I don't know if we need to go behind, it would be nice to take the lead and see what we can do from there. We will take every game as it comes; Inverness next week and we are back in the pack now and a couple of more points away from Motherwell. A win over Inverness could maybe take us up one or two places."
