Clark has good feeling for Dunfermline

Wednesday, 27th May 2015

Sandy Clark was certainly feeling good to be back as he joined Dunfermline for a third time.

Speaking exclusively to this website he confessed that he sometimes forgets about the first time when he made four appearances in Jim Leishman's 1989-90 side.

"It is good to be back and it was one of the easier decisions for me to make because obviously I know Allan well but I know that I was coming to a club where there are a lot of good people and a good feeling about the whole place.

"It has been difficult over the last few years financially but that has happened to a lot of clubs in Scotland. It is great to be back in an area where I know that if people work hard and do their best then they are appreciated. That is what we will be trying to do."

Leaving Darren Young behind at League Two champions Albion Rovers was uncomfortable but Sandy accepted that was just the way football works and instead of being in their dugout when they play Dunfermline he will be in the opposing one.

"If you go back a bit further Allan and I were at Queen of the South and we did well. It was a big decision to go to Kilmarnock. Whether that was the right decision or not I will let Allan answer.

"In football you have to let your head rule you, not your heart. I enjoyed last year it was great, everybody at Albion Rovers were brilliant. The support was great in the way that they backed Darren and myself. If this opportunity had not arisen I would have been happy to stay at Albion Rovers for another year.

"In football things happen, you move on and I am really looking forward to the challenge here. I know one or two of the players but I am looking forward to getting to know them. A lot of contracts have been up and I know that there has been a big change.

"If you are being brutally honest about it, finishing seventh in League One last year means that it wasn't successful. There is no doubt about that and changes would have to be made anyway. I will look at the playing squad who are here and obviously we need to add quite a few into it. That is the immediate challenge as we start the job."

The new management team are desperately keen to get off to a good start. As well as knowing the boss, Sandy knows John Potter well and knows what he can contribute to the season.

"I have known John for a long time and Allan and I go back way back. I have known Allan since he was a skinny sixteen year old. To me there are lots of similarities to going to Queen of the South three years ago; it is a similar sort of challenge, the hardest bit is trying to get the right players into the club. If we can get that bit right then there is no reason why we can't go and have a really good season.

"I know that the three of us will bond well and work well together. We have to try and get that spirit among the players as well. Those that come have to pull the one way but as a club, Dunfermline people know, that off the field and on the field if that is right then it can work. Off the field the supporters have done really well and we will try and complement that on it."
