Dunfermline Athletic

Chairman's Xmas message to Pars fans

Wednesday, 24th Dec 2014

It is a great privilege and pleasure to be asked to write a few words reflecting on the progress we have made in the last 12 months.

It is fair to say that 2013 was a very difficult year for the club with the very real prospect that Dunfermline Athletic Football Club would cease to exist, this year has proven to be extremely challenging in other ways as we have come to terms with the enormous task of rebuilding our beloved Football Club. In the midst of all this activity it is easy to forget all that has been done by so many Pars fans.

Such as the establishment and endeavours of fans groups focussed on dealing with issues such as the Club’s heritage, matchday experiences, stadium maintenance, better access for the less able and the schools programme to name but a few. These groups are making a huge difference to the manner in which the Club interfaces with our fans and the wider community.

The continued efforts of so many Pars fans and the PST to raise funds to ensure the financial stability of the club. The work done by the Centenary Club committee and all the subscribers to this vital funding stream. The growth of the 1885 Business Club, the continued activities of the former players group and our overseas fans who contribute in so many ways.

The teams that overhauled our website making it one of the best and most visited sites in Scottish football; revamped our matchday programme and transformed our social media platforms. This is just a small sample of all that has been done on behalf of the club by members of the Pars family.

I would also like to record on behalf of all Pars fans a huge thank you to the members of the board for all their efforts over the last year, it is true to say that this Club is extremely lucky to have these people looking after its best interests. I would also like to thank our loyal staff at East End Park for their endeavours over the last 12 months.

As we look forward to 2015 we must accept that we still have a lot of work to do to ensure that our Club has a secure and sustainable future. We should also take great pride from the fact that next year our Club will celebrate 130 years of unbroken history because of the efforts of all the members of the Pars family.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish our new football management team of John Potter and Neil McCann every success for the remainder of this season, and once again place on record our thanks to Jim Jefferies who recently stepped down as first team manager.

Finally, on behalf of the Board may I wish you and your family a very merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous New Year.

Come on ye Pars

Bob Garmory
Chairman
