Brothers push for promotion

Wednesday, 31st Mar 2021

Ewan Henderson:- “I am at an age where I need to be playing week in week out. I just need to keep my head down, keep working hard and hopefully be playing.”

Last Friday Ewan Henderson joined Dunfermline on loan from Celtic and he has had somewhat of a baptism of fire with tough away matches against Dundee and Raith Rovers. Ewan hopes to help the Pars push for the playoffs, and get promotion while gaining experience of playing regular first team football in the Championship. He admitted after the defeat at Stark’s Park:- “It wasn’t the best start for me personally.”

Despite coming on as a second half sub at Dundee and starting at Raith Rovers he feels his aims can be met at Dunfermline:-

“The boys have been good with me since I came in. I felt like Dunfermline was a massive club, I have known and watched them all my life and they have good players here. I knew that it would help develop my game and that is all I looked at when I signed for them.

“I am at an age where I need to be playing week in week out. I just need to keep my head down, keep working hard and hopefully be playing.”

Ewan has enjoyed training every day with top class players at Celtic and has played with fellow loanee at East End Park, Kerr McInroy, all through the years at Celtic and they have a good relationship both on and off the pitch. There were drawbacks in leaving Celtic but the 21 year old midfielder was aware that Dunfermline were keen that he should join Kerr there:-

“I knew in January that there had been contact when they tried to get me. The game time is limited at Celtic but you are playing with top class players every single day in training. All you can do is learn from them at a very young age which has helped me a lot in my game I would say. John Kennedy has said that he will keep an eye on me which was positive for me.”

Ewan’s brother Liam also came through the youth system at Celtic and he too will be keeping tabs on his younger brother by three years progress. In August 2019 Liam became the first Scottish player to play in Serie A since Graeme Souness in 1986 and Ewan keeps in constant contact:-

“He has always been a great help to me in my football, telling me what I can improve on and things I have done well. I am happy that he is kicking on in Italy and he can get promoted.

“Every day on Facetime were are talking football, he is telling me all the things that he has experienced and things that I can improve on which is a big help in my career.

“We have always helped each other. If I see things in his game that he can improve on I tell him. Mainly I’m listening to him because he has achieved a lot in the game. He has won trophies that I have not done. He has won everything in Scotland, he has done it in Norway and now he is doing it in Italy.

“I just have to listen to his advice. I look up to him and try and do what he has done.”

While Liam enjoys his football with Lecce in Southern Italy, Ewan has committed himself to life in West Fife until the end of this season. He is hopeful that very soon he can be part of a much needed Dunfermline victory:-

“Tuesday was a tough one to take but hopefully all the lads will be able to bounce back in the next game on Saturday against Hearts with a win.”
