Dunfermline postie keeps Pars out

Greg Paterson

East Fife keeper Greg Paterson spent Saturday morning delivering mail in the Victoria Terrace area of Dunfermline and then turned out at East End Park in the afternoon to help deliver a second successive league defeat to Jim Jefferies team. The part time footballer come postman who spent six years at Dunfermline told the website:-

"I am over the moon, I couldn't ask for any more than that. It was a good performance from the team. Last week we were on the end of a heavy 4-1 defeat to Ayr United but this was a good bounce back for us.

"We have a great team, we are a good squad. Anybody that comes into the team is doing really well for us; we have experience, we have got youth - a good mixture about us and there is a good team spirit."

GREG PATERSON for East Fife

The former pupil of Woodmill High School has found East Fife to be a great opportunity to return to league football and he has plenty old pals at Bayview. Pat Clarke, Liam Buchanan, Paul Willis and Scott McBride are all old team mates. He continued:-

"There are a lot of ex Dunfermline players in the squad and it is good when you go to a team where you know a few of the players. It makes it easier to settle in but there were boys who I didn't know but they made me feel comfortable right away. I am enjoying it.

"All I am looking to do is stay in the team. I am only signed for the year but I am enjoying my part time football. East Fife is a good club so hopefully I can kick on from here.

Greg broke into the first team at East Fife in September and has played six matches now for the Methil club. That's twice as many appearances as he made for Dunfermline after coming up through the youth system and being capped at under 15 and under 17 level. His first team appearances ended abruptly after breaking his leg on a March evening in the game against Dundee.

The 24 year old knows the third tier of Scottish football well since when he left East End Park in June 2011 he was signed by Forfar Athletic and made 21 appearances for them. He considers his ex club have coped very well with the league so far while admitting it is more physical than what they might have experienced at a higher level.
