Another defender signed

The Pars today announced the signing of former Livingston centre back Callum Fordyce.

The 22-year old defender becomes manager Allan Johnston's second signing, joining up again with former Livi teammate Jason Talbot in a new look Pars defence.

Fordyce made over 100 first team appearances in his five year spell at Livingston, including all but one of the club's league games last season. He leaves them after six years during which he graduated out of the Lions youth system.

Asked what attracted him to Dunfermline Athletic, Callum said,

"They are in a lower league, but when you look at the fanbase and the surroundings, this is a massive club. Dunfermline really want to go places, and I want to be part of that. Speaking to John Potter and Allan Johnston, I got good reports from them and also from Jason Talbot. It's a family club as well, which is good. With the fanbase and the ambitions of the club, it's made my decision really easy."

He added, "Hopefully I can cement my place in the team, and do well for the fans and the gaffer. I'm hoping I can score a few goals, and of course do my best defensively, so we can keep as many clean sheets as we can and win as many games."

In terms of career achievements to date, Callum is very proud of his contribution to Livingston's Petrofac cup win and helping the club avoid relegation. He also mentioned a hat-trick he scored against Cowdenbeath - all headers from set pieces. "Growing up and making my way in football, I followed Carles Puyol the Barcelona defender. I liked the way he played, he could do the dirty stuff when necessary, and although he wasn't the biggest he was pretty effective."

When not playing football, Callum spends his free time... coaching football. He's been involved in coaching youths at Livingston and working with local boys clubs at home in Polbeth, West Lothian and West Calder.

Commenting on the latest arrival, head coach John Potter said, "He's got strength and pace, which Allan and I are looking to add to the team. He's versatile too - I've seen him play at left and right back as well as centre back. Callum's experience of playing regularly at a higher level will help us. He works very hard at his game and he's got a tremendous attitude. He can be very effective in both boxes, which is something I feel we lacked last season."

Originally with Hibs, Callum made his senior debut in a 4-2 win over Airdrie United on 23 April 2011 in the Scottish Second Division. In March 2013 he went out on loan to Clyde where he made six starts before returning to Livi and earning an extension to his contract.
