Morris signs on

Tuesday, 16th May 2017

Dunfermline Athletic are delighted to announce defender, Callum Morris has today signed a one-year extension with the club.

Callum Morris claimed that it was the pull of Dunfermline Athletic Football Club that was the deciding factor when it came to signing on for another season at East End Park. He told the website:-

"I had a bit of time when I was away. I spoke with other people and there were other things on the table but since coming back to Dunfermline it has felt right and like coming home.

"The fans have been great, the staff and everything about the place has been positive. The club is on the way up again and I want to be part of that. On the pitch the understanding with `Ash` and the rest of the back four has been excellent."

Callum Morris re-joined Dunfermline in January 2017 and he felt that the Pars should have won a lot more games than they did in the second half of the season:-

"It all kind of fell into place. Later on last season I felt we were building something special and I felt we underachieved. If we can put these little mistakes right then we can push for that title I`d like to think."

The popular defender acknowledged that next season`s Championship could look very different from last. Hibs have been promoted, Dundee United and Falkirk are battling it out for the right to contest the Premier League play off while at the other end rivals Raith Rovers will be replaced by either Alloa Athletic or Brechin City.

"All we can do is concentrate on ourselves and build a team and a squad that is capable of going right to the top of this league regardless of who is in it. I don`t see why not and I would not have signed otherwise."

His new deal will keep him at East End until May 2018 and Callum feels that with the key central players through Lee Ashcroft, himself, Nat Wedderburn and Nicky Clark staying on that creates a lot to build on.

"I think a lot of teams would welcome such a strong spine to their team. The manager and Chairman are recruiting. I wasn`t here in the early part of last season but that spine has played the majority of last season.

"Nat took some time to break into the team but he is a cult hero already. Ryan Williamson and Lewis Martin will be here, David Hopkirk is signed so there is the makings of a right good squad there. That is something that I have bought into and I want to impose on other people. I would not have signed here if I did not think something positive could come out of it."

The 27 year old centre back is convinced that Dunfermline is the best place for him to be and content to have signed will go off on holiday wearing his Dunfermline top:-

"It is the same every time that you are out of contract, you could be moving all over the shop, anywhere in the world. You never know what will happen especially in modern day football. Right now this is where my future lies and this is the best decision for me.

"The fans have been massive since I came back, even when I walk up the town for a coffee people come and speak to you. Everyone is so friendly and come and have a chat. They treat you like a pal and it is a nice friendly, family club. All my family, and even my missus has said that this is the best club that she has ever come to watch games at so that means a lot.

"It is not just if I am happy but it is everything that comes with me. Everyone is positive about it and we have a big season ahead when we want to be pushing to win that title or at the least, be in those play offs this time next season."
