Physical presence extended

Friday, 5th May 2017

Nat Wedderburn really kicked on and was a massive player for us claimed Allan Johnston.

The club is very pleased to announce that Nat Wedderburn has signed a one year extension to his contract at Dunfermline. The manager was delighted that his midfielder had put pen to paper and said:-

"Over the last six months Nat has really shown his potential. Maybe coming to a new club, it took him a wee while to get going at the start of the season. Maybe not playing a lot of games last year, maybe not being at the fitness levels that he should have been by missing a bit of pre season."

Allan Johnston was most impressed by the contribution of the 25 year old adding:-

"He really kicked on and was a massive player for us. He has a real physical presence but he has also got skill as well, and can pass the ball. Having somebody of his qualities at his age as well - he is another one who is at a really good age - then it is a really good signing."

Nat told the website that he enjoyed his first season at Dunfermline and was glad to be back again next season.

"Once I got a run of games everything went well for me. Hopefully I can start well next season and right from the off I can perform to my abilities.

"I hope that we can keep the majority of the squad because you could see that it took us a bit of time to gel but you could see in the second half of the season that we were one of the better teams in the league. That year`s experience of being together, going into next season everybody knowing each other I feel that we could be right up there challenging."

Highlighting the current Championship table Nat described a gulf between Hibs and the others:-

"The teams below are quite tight together and obviously if we had started the season better we would have been close. You can see that there is not much difference between the other teams in the league.

"The likes of Falkirk and Dundee United if they don`t get up, Inverness if they come down, we will all be hoping to win the league not just make the play offs.

"At the start of the season it looked as though it would be Hibs and Dundee United going for the title up to the last day with the other teams trying to make third and fourth. United have had an indifferent season and Hibs have run away with it really."

Next season Nat`s ambition is to play even more games for the Pars:-

"I`m sure everyone will be the same and hopefully win more. We picked up a lot of draws and but for them we could have been challenging up in the top four."

The big Englishman from Wolverhampton has settled in well to his role in the Pars midfield and he added:-

"I have played there most of my career, I have played in there with John Herron and with Rhys McCabe and played well, even with Andy Geggan at the start of the season, I have enjoyed it."
