Allan Johnston was delighted with his side`s 3-1 win over Greenock Morton in the last home league match of the 2016-2017 season. He told the media:-
"Obviously Morton have overachieved this year, they have done fantastic. We made a couple of changes today but it was important that we went out especially with it being the last home game as well.
"It is great to put in another decent performance, get the goals and finish the last home game on a high."
Morton had 13 corners to Dunfermline`s one but the manager said it felt much better than the 41% possession stat suggested:-
"They are a threat at setpieces, I wouldn`t say they had a lot of possession, not that hurt us. I wouldn`t say that they had a lot of chances. I thought it was a pretty even game and not a lot between the teams.
"We are delighted to come away with three points."
"I know that it does not affect Morton`s season but it still affects our season. We have still got stuff to play for and we want to finish in fifth place if possible. It sets us up for a big game next week."
That match is at Palmerston Park against the only side who can wrench fifth place away from the Pars and a draw would be enough.
"With the goal difference we have got a draw is enough but we are going out for the win. It is hard to go places and set up for a draw. We need to go and try and win the game as we do every time. I am sure that Queens will be fired up as well and it should make for a good game.
Having just signed an extension to his contract seventeen year old Callum Smith as introduced as a sub for Nicky Clark in 84 minutes and within two he had set up Rhys McCabe for the third Dunfermline goal. The manager commented:-
"It was great, he deserved it. He is a young lad who signed an extension to his contract as well. We have high hopes for us and it was great to see him coming on and get involved. I am sure that we will see a lot more of him."
Michael Moffat`s goal six minutes into the second half really settled the home side down and allowed them to coast to the victory.
"It was a great bit of skill from Higgy, a fantastic ball in and then I thought we were in control for the second half once we got that second goal."
