McCabe rocks Dumbarton

Monday, 17th Apr 2017

"I am just delighted with the three points and with the results for the teams round about us.

Rhys McCabe had several cracks at goal on Saturday but he felt that it was one of his poorest struck efforts that broke the deadlock. He discussed the game with the media after the match saying:-

"I didn`t think it was a great game of football to watch. The conditions and wind obviously played a big part. The pitch wasn`t great but we are delighted just to get the three points and the result."

Rhys scored the opening goal with just ten minutes left to play. He revealed:-

"I had it in my head that when it came out that I was shooting. I had a couple in the first half that I probably caught a bit too well. I was lucky with that one that I didn`t quite catch it so good but it managed to find the bottom corner.

"I am just delighted with the three points and with the results for the teams round about us. I think we can safely say that we are safe. We can look forward now."

It was the 24 year old`s fourth goal for Dunfermline and his only other goal this season was in the Boxing Day Derby at home to Falkirk. The win coupled with Queen of the South`s defeat at Easter Road lifted the Pars into fifth place and a position that they will want to secure in the remaining games at home to Falkirk and Morton and then away to Queen of the South on the last day of the season. Rhys continued:-

"You are still playing for your own pride and professionalism but that was a big match and the three points are vital."

Seven points clear of ninth placed Dumbarton, it is almost certain that the Pars cannot be overtaken by all the teams placed ninth to sixth. The arithmetic is complicated somewhat by the fact that Raith Rovers and St Mirren play each other on 29th April but it would take an usual set of circumstances now for the Pars to finish ninth. Rhys continued:-

"Of course anything can happen in football but we have three games remaining that we have to go into with the correct attitude and put on a performance for the fans that are coming week on week out and give them a good end to the season."
