Clark concentrates on Cappielow challenge

Friday, 24th Mar 2017

"We know what we are up against and need to concentrate on ourselves and make sure that we are prepared."

Nicky Clark has scored in both his last two matches at Cappielow, one for Queen of the South followed up by one for Dunfermline. The Fifers fans certainly hope he can make it three in a row. Speaking to the media ahead of Saturday`s game against Morton, Nicky was still lamenting last weekend`s defeat.

"I thought we got in great positions specially with Ryan Williamson down the right hand side. It never fell for us, we never got the break of the ball in the box and it was disappointing that we never worked the goalie enough either.

"If Moffat`s header that came off the post had gone in, then we would have gone on to win the game comfortably. After the game we looked at the stats and we had all the possession, we had the most shots on goal but we never hit the target enough. They got the goal from the setpiece and after they scored we stopped what we were doing well."

Nicky was right to highlight the match statistics. 18 shots at goal to Ayr`s 8, 57% possession against Ayr`s 43% and 10 corners to the visitors 4. Figures that only underline the missed opportunity that Saturday`s match turned out to be.

"We knew that if we had won on Saturday that would have been us away from the bottom and looking to try and catch Queen of the South and Dundee United. The league does not lie, we are only five points off the bottom of the league now.

"We need to concentrate on the teams below us and make sure that we pick up as many points as possible between now and the end of the season."

Morton will be no easy opponents on Saturday as they go out not just to catch league leaders Hibs but also complete a year unbeaten in league competition at Cappielow.

"They are due to get beat, so why not let it be by us on Saturday. They have had a lot of great results and there is no doubting that they are a good team.

"I watched their second half against Falkirk last Saturday night. Falkirk is a hard place to go and get a win but they did that. They could probably have got another couple had they taken all their chances.

"We know what we are up against and need to concentrate on ourselves and make sure that we are prepared."

Nicky scored his first Dunfermline goal at Cappielow back in September in the 2-1 defeat and more recently has formed a good partnership in attack with Michael Moffat. He continued:-

"We are both chipping in goals here and there and it is working well. Hopefully I can score again on Saturday."

Service was provided by Kallum Higginbotham, Joe Cardle and Michael Paton on Saturday and in previous matches Paul McMullan has also delivered fodder for the strikers. Nicky said:-

"We have players who are more than capable of putting good balls into the box. Obviously on Saturday it never really fell for us and our final ball at times let us down.

"There is a lot of ability going down either side and we are always going to create chances."
