McMullan for Scotland

Thursday, 16th Mar 2017

Scot Gemmill has named 10 uncapped players in his Scotland Under-21 squad for the upcoming International Challenge Match.

Paul McMullan`s good form at Dunfermline has been rewarded with a place in Scot Gemmill’s Under 21 squad to face Estonia in a friendly later this month.

The 21-year-old, who is on loan at East End Park from Celtic, has now scored seven goals in 31 outings from a wide position. Paul knew that he had been shortlisted but was pleasantly surprised when he was announced in the squad.

"I found out yesterday about lunchtime and I was just delighted to have been called up. I have played for Scotland at other age groups but I did not have a good year in the year before joining Dunfermline and dropped out of contention.

"I always thought that if I could get a good run of games going that I was good enough to represent Scotland."

While McMullan has previously enjoyed spells with Stenhousemuir, St Mirren and Morton, he has delivered solid and consistent performances in Allan Johnston`s team. The manager added:-

"It is good that he has managed to make it into the squad and good for the club to get this recognition."

Paul felt that the manager`s trust in him, being given regular starts at Dunfermline has created the opportunity for him. He is out of contract with Celtic at the end of the season and feels that this selection has come at a good time. He added:-

"It will hopefully make people notice. It can only be a good thing."

The Scotland v Estonia Under-21 International will be played on Tuesday, 28 March 2017, kick-off 7.30pm at the Paisley 2021 Stadium.

The match will serve as a preparation match for the UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifying round which begins in September with a home tie against Netherlands (venue to be confirmed)
