Moffat still chasing the top four

Michael Moffat was pleased to score against Queen of the South on Tuesday night but was disappointed that it was not enough to win the game. He told the media:-

"I thought we deserved to win the match because we had the better chances. It wasn`t a great game, the pitch wasn`t great and it is probably the worst game I have ever been involved in. The park cut up a bit with the two games in four days.

"The ball was out the park and in the air more than it was on the park. It was just one of those games and good I suppose in that we didn`t get beat.

"The pitch wasn`t one to play football on, it was bobbling all over the place. It was a case of don`t lose, don`t make any mistakes and try and play in the opponent`s half. When we got in there you can play with a bit more freedom.

"After taking the lead and getting a few chances in the second half we were disappointed not to win. We didn`t create too many chances, we had a couple of headers and Nicky hit the post as well."

Michael felt that Queen of the South were always dangerous on the break but maintained that the Pars push towards the end always made a home win more likely. The Pars striker was pleased to score his first goal since the home game against Morton on 10th December:-

"It is always nice to get on the scoresheet. I have had a few chances recently where I hit the bar and the post and the keepers have had a few good saves so it was nice to get a goal."

Saturday will see Dunfermline travel to Paisley to play bottom of the table St Mirren and while they lost momentum with their defeat at Starks Park on Wednesday night, Saturday is a game that the Pars would dearly like to win so that the gap between them is increased. Moff felt that the club is looking upwards but admitted that there is also concern about what is happening below them.

"You want to get as big a gap as possible from the teams below us. Tuesday was another point but we need a few more wins to get us further away from the bottom.

"As long as it is still possible to catch the teams we will keep looking up the way as well. We will take it game by game. We went on a great run earlier on in the season and if we can do that again you just never know. Hopefully the teams above have a bit of a blip. As long as it is still mathematically possible we have to keep trying."
