Sean hopes Pars show up for cup

Sunday, 5th Feb 2017

"They deserved to win and we did not show up. We got what we deserved.

Sean Murdoch was unhappy to have let in two goals and forego the three points but conceded that Falkirk were worthy winners on Saturday:-

"Falkirk were better than us, they outthought us, outmuscled us. They deserved to win and we did not show up. We got what we deserved.

"It is surprising because we have been really good in the last eleven games undefeated. That is football, I don`t know why we never showed up. I suppose it is credit to Falkirk who were the better team. They scored two goals, we didn`t score any."

A first half goal from John Baird and another from the former Dundee United and Aberdeen striker, Lee Miller thirteen minutes from time secured the Bairns win. Sean felt that years of playing in the Championship made all the difference:-

"I have said it in the past, they are an experienced team and know the league. They are very compact and know what to do. Maybe we need a bit more experience in this league but that will take time."

After the disappointing result Sean claimed that the only thing the team can now do is bounce back in the cup tie against Hamilton Accies next Saturday.

"There is no point in dwelling on it. We will go over the footage of the game and see what we could have done better and take it on into the next game. We have to stay positive because there are a lot of games yet to play in the league."

The Pars league season now goes into a two week break as firstly they meet Hamilton Accies in the Scottish Cup and then sit out the following Saturday as the only Scottish club without a fixture as the Irn Bru Cup semi finals are played. Sean is looking forward to the variation that the cup game will provide, he added:-

"I am looking forward to the cup game. It is a different kind of game and good that it is not someone in our league because that gets repetitive. It is one of my old clubs as well and so I will see some old faces. I just hope that we can get a win and move on to the next round."

Sean was loaned out from Dunfermline to Hamilton in February 2007 and after a nominal fee of £15,000 was paid the keeper spent the next three seasons at Hamilton. Several players are still at the club from that time.

"There are some - Mikey Devlin and Grant Gillespie and Ali Crawford plus Brian Potter, the goalie coach I worked with. It will be nice to see some old faces and hopefully we can do them over come Saturday.

"Their playing budget is probably well below everyone else. Credit to them, credit to the manager they are a well run club. I know a lot of people behind the scenes and they do run it well. They thrive on youth and have been punching even when I was there with a bigger budget.

"They will come and make it a really competitive game. They are a good team, we are a good team, so we will see!"
