Pars like the Luke

Wednesday, 1st Feb 2017

"He is still very young but there are bits of his game that we think are good and he thinks he can get better.

Brandon Luke will not be 18 until March but he is delighted to have earned an 18 month contract at Dunfermline. Speaking exclusively to the website, Brandon said

"I came in pre season, worked hard, tried to impress the gaffer and earn a longer contract."

Brandon arrived on a short term contract so that the coaching staff could look at him. He was the youngest in the squad but his coach John Potter described his progress:-

"We looked at him and he did well enough. We were hoping that he would do a bit better, and to be fair he has done that and deserved it so he has been signed to the end of next season.

"He is still very young but he has definitely improved. He is a fantastic professional. In small things like fitness test last week he was top in everything."

Initially the former pupil of Lochgelly High was played in a central midfield role but Dunfermline would rather he played wide left. He expanded:-

"The gaffer sees me getting me getting forward more from a wide left position where I can take people on and create chances. I did play there in the under 13s and 14s and I prefer it as well."

The youngster is spoiled for advice at the club from the likes of Joe Cardle, Kallum Higginbotham, Michael Paton and David Hopkirk.

"If nothing is going right they just tell me to keep working hard. They help me in training if I am maybe doing something wrong or they think I should be doing better, they help me. It is good and I get on with everybody as well."

The augmentation of the Development squad for league matches has worked well in terms of victories that sees them sit sixth in a very competitive league but that has not always been good news for young players like Brandon seeking regular starts.

"It is hard just now when there are quite a few first team boys playing at the moment. Hopefully when my get my chance I will take it."

His coach is in no doubt about that majoring on the fact that the young midfielder has the right approach, Potts added:-

"He has a great attitude, learning the slightly different position that we are playing him in. He is doing that well and now the contract gives him time to try and get better, do the things we are asking him so hopefully he goes on and does well."

Convinced that he is a promising prospect, John Potter concluded:-

"He is still very young but there are bits of his game that we think are good and he thinks he can get better. He listens to what you tell him and he will do his very very best to try and be a football player. If you have a good attitude, that is enough for me and we will try and work on the other wee bits."
