Sean sure confidence can count

"They have shipped a lot of goals though recently I have noticed so their confidence might be low

Pars goalkeeper Sean Murdoch is looking forward to playing against Dundee United and improving on his record against them this season, he told the media this week:-

"Dundee United are a quality team and obviously they have a big squad of quality players. We have played them a lot this season and there have been narrow defeats. Two 1-0s in the games that I have been involved in. Especially at Tannadice when we went down to ten men, I thought that we were worthy of a point but we never held out.

"We will give them a good game and hopefully we can get the three points. We know what their capabilities are, I would like to get a shut out and a couple of goals would be nice."

Games against Dundee United are ones that Sean really likes because of their attacking strength but is keen to halt Simon Murray`s record of three goals in four matches:-

"You know that you are going to be in for a busy game. Simon Murray is a good player who has attracted interest from elsewhere. He is a good player, he scored one against me and it was Mark Durnan who scored the other."

When the Pars recent form is compared to that of United then the outcome this Saturday could be the first win in eight meetings for the Fifers:-

"For a neutral looking in the favour might be on us but we know Dundee United`s strengths. We know that they have good players and it will be a tough game but certainly one that we can win to keep the momentum going. The tide has turned and we are the form team. We have gone ten games unbeaten and we want that to become eleven."

Injury kept Sean out of the first two matches against United this season and he related how it felt watching from the stand as the three Dunfermline penalties saved by Cammy Bell:-

"You will probably never see that again. They were three great saves as well, they weren`t easy penalties to save. They have shipped a lot of goals though recently I have noticed so their confidence might be low in the defensive area so maybe that is something we can exploit.

"I know Cammy through Scotland set ups, he is a good goalkeeper but hopefully we can put a few past him on Saturday."

Sean drew comparison saying that the Pars team confidence is high and they go into every game thinking that they can win. As Dunfermline`s next four league matches are against the top four teams in the Championship, belief in success does need to remain solid. The 30 year old keeper added:-

"Winning is a habit and long may it continue. It is going to be difficult but it is a game that we can definitely win."

In amongst those four Championship matches there is now a home Scottish Cup tie against Sean`s old club, Hamilton Accies. He commented:-

"I was at Hamilton for just under four years. I spent a season there on loan and then signed for three years permanently. I had a fantastic time at Hamilton. We were three years in the Premier League and we did really well."

Finishing seventh in the Premier League with Hamilton in season 2009-2010 is the highest Sean has ever achieved but he also experienced the lows while there too being relegated before he left to join Accrington Stanley.

"I have great memories and still keep in touch with many people that work behind the scenes there and I know some of the players too. It is definitely a tie that we can win, I do not think that it is a bad draw, especially being at home.

"Hamilton`s pitch is astro but I have always like grass. If we can get through and depending on the draw, we could virtually be in the semi finals.

"No disrespect to Hamilton, I think most of the fans from what I have heard would rather have had a big game against Celtic or Rangers or maybe one of the lesser teams, Stirling or Clyde. We have an in between team but definitely one we can win. I thought the draw was good, it is against my old club and one that we can win."

The draw immediately instigated text messages from John Potter`s brother:-

"Brian Potter is the goalie coach there, he was here for a while and he is a great guy. It will be great to see him again, he is a really really good goalie coach and doing well down there."
