02/01/17: AJ:- "it was really good to come here and put on such a good performance.

- - Listen to this Allan Johnston interview

Pars manager Allan Johnston felt that his side deserved their 2-0 win at Starks Park.

"In the first half we probably just edged it and we scored a good goal from a corner. Second half we totally dominated it and could probably have scored another three or four with a wee bit of quality.

"Even in the first half we had really good opportunities and it was maybe just our decision making on the final ball (that let us down). Right from Sean Murdoch all the way through to Nicky Clark the boys were excellent."

The win takes Dunfermline up to sixth place and just four points behind their local rivals. AJ commented on how close the Championship table is.

"The league is really tight and it is important that you put a run together. We have managed to do that lately but there are a lot of big games coming up against teams round about us. These are games that we want to try and win and push up the table.

"There is still an opportunity to finish in the top four. That is what we are trying to aim for, I know that it is going to be difficult because there are a lot of quality teams in this league. We think that we have the squad capable of doing that."

It could have been a more comfortable victory but the Pars manager praised his opponents:-

"They are a hard team to play against, they are a good team. In the last couple of years they have been in the top four, they have a lot of experience, a lot of quality so it was really good to come here and put on such a good performance. It shows you how far we have come since the start of the season with a different scoreline now."

Allan marked his appreciation of the 2845 Pars fans who travelled through to Kirkcaldy to support the team.

"It is always brilliant when the fans turn out in their numbers and get right behind the team. It is always good to get a result for them as well. They travel week in week out and follow us everywhere. It is also good to get the bragging rights over you local rivals."

At 1-0 Nicky Clark missed a couple of good chances to make it 2-0 and the manager worried that "if you do not take your chances sometimes they come back to bite you. It was an important game to win. The boys did that with a wee bit of class but one result is not enough. We need consistency week in week out, getting results and performances like that. Hopefully we can do that."

Asked again about possible signings, Allan said:-

"We have brought in big Callum Morris. He will be a good addition for us and then we will just have to wait and see how the month progresses."
