Talbot enjoys taste of scoring
Monday, 19th Dec 2016Jason Talbot`s match against Queen of the South on Saturday was sweet and sour experience for him.
The 31 year old defender scored his side`s equaliser but admitted that he might have done better with his efforts to prevent the ball in for the opposition`s equaliser. He told the media:-
"It was a bit of a nervy start for both teams. It was going to be a tough challenge coming down here. When we came out in the second half I thought we could edge it and I thought we did enough to get the win but obviously we allowed Queen of the South to come back."
Jason`s equaliser 16 minutes into the second half set up a good comeback from the Pars. He described how he had a similar opportunity not long before his success.
"When the second one came I just thought I`d do the same, just hit it and see what happens. I don`t score many goals so it is nice to get a goal."
When Kallum Higginbotham headed in a Michael Moffat delivery in 73rd minute it looked like the Fifers had secured the three points required to leapfrog Queen of the South but a second goal just five minutes later meant that both sides were going to pick up a point. Jason was disappointed that Danny Carmichael got away from him to send in the goal creating pass.
"It was partly my fault. I let Carmichael cut in and play a good ball on for Lyle and before you know it is in the back of the net. These are the things that we have to stop. Hopefully we can secure the three points next time."
The Pars defender feels that things are turning around in the team`s favour:-
"The last three or four weeks we have been really good, the second half was more like us. We are still undefeated so we can go and push for a few more points now."
He speculated on the reasons why the team has not had the start that they had anticipated.
"There are younger boys who have not been in this league, so it is a learning curve for them. It is a learning curve for us as a unit, there all sorts of things going our way, we will push back up.
"Hibs, Dundee United and Falkirk are relatively strong and have great squads, they are the ones with the bigger budgets. The fourth place is pretty much up for any team in the league. Someone might go on an unbelievable ten to fifteen game unbeaten run, you never know.
"As a squad we just get down to what we need to do, train hard, work hard and hopefully get three points on Boxing Day."
His goal at Palmerston was just Jason`s second for the club coming sixteen months after his first against Stranraer last season. Not renowned for goal scoring - he scored five in seven seasons at Livingston - Jason promised that he would be out to better a tally of one per season.
"I will try and get at least two this year. I have had a couple of chances earlier on this season so hopefully get a few more before the season finishes."
