AJ:- "when you go ahead you expect to win ..."

Allan Johnston`s return to Palmerston Park only secured his side one point, he claimed it was a poor game.

"I don`t think there was much in the game, it was very very scrappy at times. We lost a goal that was an own goal, I think Lee Ashcroft just got a flick on it.

"We said to the boys that was just not good enough but you could see the reaction to it in the second half. I thought we played really well in the second half and totally dominated. Queens went up the park twice and scored once.

"We had chances and we kept going forward. There was better energy about the team and we deservedly went ahead.

"But when you go ahead you have to see the game out. The boys showed a lot of character in the way they came back. They could quite easily have found it quite difficult when Queens go ahead.

"The two goals were poor goals. You also look defensively `could we have done better?` hopefully it is one we can learn from. You can see that we have improved from what we were but there is still a long way to go."

The second half performance looked like one that felt that the game was there to be won, AJ commented:-

"It was and that`s how it feels we have actually lost points. It is a difficult place to come but when you go ahead you expect to win, especially the way the boys played second half, I thought they were different class."

A feature of the attack at Dumfries was the ammunition fired in courtesy of long throw ins from Rhys McCabe. The manager revealed that this talent had been kept a secret even from him:-

"He kept it quiet that he could do that. He only came and said a couple of weeks ago that he could put long throws in. It is a weapon when it comes in like that. They are hard to defend and it was a great finish from Jason Talbot when it came to the edge of the box. He showed a wee bit of composure.

"We scored two really good goals. Even the second goal, Higgy got in at the back post with a really good header. There was a lot of good play in the second half but we cannot afford to start games the way we started first half."

The result meant that Dunfermline failed to achieve their goal of getting into 6th place in the Championship by Christmas. The Pars are one of three clubs on 17 points with the Fife club in seventh on account of their superior goal difference. The Pars boss admitted that was not the position they wanted to be in.

"We want to be challenging up near the top but it is still achievable when you look at the league. It is about winning these games though, when you go ahead you have to see the game out and get the three points. There is still a long way to go, a lot of important games coming up and I am sure that they will be well up for it."
