Michael Moffat celebrated his 100th appearance for Dunfermline with a first half double that took his team through to a 2-1 win over Morton on Saturday. He was happy to accept the seasonal gifts.
"It was nice to get a couple of goals and a win. We have not had too much luck in front of goal in the last few weeks so it was nice for us to get it for a change.
"Before that the penalty save was important. When you go behind in this league it is tough to come back so it is always first to get the first goal."
Morton keeper Derek Gaston denied Moff a first half hat trick and the striker jested:-
"He saved it with his feet. I told him if his feet were not as big it would have gone in. It was a good save."
The finish for the second goal midway through the first half was the better of the two added Moff:-
"Sometimes you have as much time when you are running through. I just tried to cut it across him and it went through his legs. I was just delighted to see it go in."
Moff was well aware that Dunfermline were up against a Morton team that was enjoying a good run of results.
"They are a big strong, powerful team that scores a lot of their goals from setpieces because of their height. We knew that it would be a battle but I think we competed well. In this league sometimes you just need to dig it out and that is what we did. It possibly wasn`t the best performance but it is all about getting the points."
The Pars keeper Sean Murdoch made the most important save of the day, stopping Tom O`Ware`s fifth minute penalty, and it was Sean instead of Michael who picked up the Man of the Match award.
"He was due a save and it was a big moment in the game. We are up to seventh now but it is quite tight. Two or three wins in this league and you will jump up it. We just need to try and rain in the teams above us.
"We have a big game down at Queens next week. If we win we go above them so it is a good incentive."
